    Skypiax has sound problems with snd_dummy under Centos 5.3. I have removed all entries from /etc/alsa/alsa.conf
     as suggested by Giovanni. I am seeing three different behaviours without altering the configuration, after fresh re-boots:

    1.) X-server crashes: 2009-05-01 04:19:34 [ERR] skypiax_protocol.c:1184 X11_errors_handler() rev 13177[(nil)|37 ][ERRORA 1184 ][none ][-1,-1,-1] Received error code 3 from X Server

    2.) ALSA lib pcm.c:2184:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM `?@?n

    3.) Call doesn't go through and skype crashes afterwards

Please, bring back the original /etc/alsa/alsa.conf (I'll send you mail), it's not the cause of your problems.

Let's be back at your original problems, the ones in this Jira are partly originated because of the editing of the /etc/alsa/alsa.conf .

I'll mark this Jira "not reproducible" and solved. Please open another Jira with your problems with the original /etc/alsa/alsa.conf .

I just tried all the steps (exactly, just cut and paste) from the wiki page:
http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Skypiax_Skype_Endpoint_and_Trunk#An_example_of_Skypiax_and_FreeSWITCH_installation_on_CentOS_5.2.2C_from_scratch

I substituted 5.3 instead of 5.2.

I'm afraid it worked flawlessly for me. (shocked about: Anthony is
right about CentOS being "boring and predictable", good qualities for
a server OS!)

At the start of Skype clients it will tell bizarre things about hdmi,
but they are unharmful (I've not edited the alsa stuff, it still groak
about non-existent hdmi, but it works nonetheless).
